Department manages patients with complicated surgical problems in Gastro Intestinal tract, Liver, gall bladder, Pancreas. Quality and safety are maintained at highest level. Envisioned goal is surgical excellence in patient care, research.
Various domains of the department’s functioning are governed by new systems and practices which include standard operating procedures, checklists and guidelines including cancer of liver, chronic pancreatitis, portal hypertension and cancer of oesophagus Developing new concepts in equipment and instrument designs are also being done. Liver, Pancreases, Bowel transplants have been envisioned. There is dedicated nutritionist with medical social worker who render services to outpatients and in-patients. Ostomy services run daily and cater for patients in entire hospital.

State of the art equipment both for open as well as laparoscopic operations including multi-parameter monitors, intra-operative ultrasound (IOUS), Cavitron Ultrasonic Suction Aspirator (CUSA), Waterjet surgical unit for precise, heatless dissection of for minimal trauma during procedures ,laparoscopic real-time vessel navigation (LRTVN) using indocyanine green fluorescence (ICG) during laparoscopy-assisted gastric tube reconstruction (LAGR) to evaluate gastric tube blood flow and avoid vascular injury., Argon beam coagulator, Flexible Choledochoscope,( for direct visualization of biliary tract) rigid operating scope, advanced laparoscopic equipment, energy devices etc. Department has Anorectal manometric system to evaluate anorectal function, Oesophageal manometry and continuous pH monitoring systems to diagnose gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, rapid blood and fluid infusion system low flow infusion system, peritoneovenous shunt.
