Department of Radiation Therapy
Department plays vital role in managing, treating, curing cancers by radiation. Experienced team of specialized healthcare professionals adheres to international standards of quality with high-precision equipment, commitment to patient-centred approach to provide exceptional, cost-effective and compassionate care with greatest possible patient safety.
Teams comprise of Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Radiation Therapists and Nurses with expertise in specialized fields who work to provide best possible safe quality care. Radiation, as advanced technology for safe, effective therapy with as few side effects as possible, is part of treatment in big number of patients cured of cancer, many more treated for cancer.
Department works in collaboration with other services including Psychology, Dietetics and Physical Medical and Rehabilitation (PMR) via Multidisciplinary tumour board meetings and cross-consultations to ensure that patients get accurate diagnosis and treatment delivered if possible curative radiation alone, concurrently with chemotherapy adjuvant treatment, after chemotherapy or surgery to consolidate the tumour further or to get away with residual microscopic disease after surgery, prophylactic radiation – to sterilize sanctuary sites or palliative treatment- to ameliorate a specific symptoms like pain, bleeding or obstruction. solid malignancies and some haematological tumours.
Department is actively involved in cancer detection programs, counselling and education of high-risk population, and preventive oncology programs. A social worker in the department counsels’ patients, guides them about packages offered by the government, helps in coping with often unvoiced concerns about cancer and its outcome.

Teletherapy, brachytherapy, both are used, with3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (CRT) to plan external body radiation that target tumours protecting nearby healthy organs like in brain breast cancer conditions and Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) to deliver precise radiation doses to tumours while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
Dual energy linear accelerator machine equipped with dedicated treatment verification accelerator to help deliver high radiation to the tumours with minimal dose to normal tissues Intensity Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT) and Stereotactic Surgery (SRS). treatment delivered using surface mould (for skin cancer), plaque therapy (eye cancer), interstitial therapy (for soft tissue tumour, breast cancer, ano-genital cancers), intracavitary therapy (cancer cervix endometrium), intraluminal therapy (cancer oesophagus, bronchus, Endo biliary radiation therapy) and intravascular therapy (internal mammary irradiation).
For Microselectron high dose rate using Iridium radioactive source appropriate radiation treatment delivery accurate and sophisticated planning of target is achieved with Simulator in accurate localization of target or tumor.
